What about a “making of” documentary chapter or commentary tracks?

From the beginning, including a mini-documentary on the DVD sets regarding the history of the TV specials with on-camera interviews with original crew and cast was on the idea list. Commentary tracks with original crew and cast were also always on the idea list. However, researching and assembling all the Elvis footage, doing the remastering and dealing with a million related details to bring it all to DVD in its best form proved to be all-consuming. And even with what seemed at the outset to be a generous schedule for getting it done, as is typical with any major project, a time crunch evolved . To have split our focus on the primary Elvis material with producing documentary elements as DVD extras could have been detrimental to the primary goals. Also, we realized that the story of these historic TV specials is too rich and too important to relegate to typical “making of” chapters and commentary tracks on the DVD sets. We decided to set the idea of documentary elements aside to consider as a separate project at some point. A book about the shows has also been discussed. So, we’ll see. In the meantime, we feel that the comprehensive collection of the material originally shot for these TV specials is quite an achievement and is of the most importance to us, to history and to Elvis’s fans.
