Frequently Asked Questions

I heard that commentary tracks were recorded with Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana for the two “black leather sit-down shows” for the ’68 Comeback DVD set. What happened to those?

Early on in the journey toward the ’68 DVD set, we did indeed sit with Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana and watch the two sit-down shows with them and record a discussion with them about the shows and their memories of participating. This was at a time that we were still planning to do several commentary track interviews for both the ’68 and Aloha DVD sets as well as a “making of” documentary chapter for each. When it was decided to postpone further interviews or documentary elements, it was determined that going ahead and using only the Scotty/DJ commentary track would seem odd – like the project was “unfinished” or something. Also, there were some technical flaws in the Scotty/DJ taping. So, the Scotty/DJ commentary interview remains in our archive and we’ll look forward to another opportunity to use it when we get back onto the matter of documenting the history of the ’68 Special.
