    OFFICIAL ELVIS INSIDERS CONFERENCE

Click here to go to the Official 2005 Elvis Insiders Conference website.

10:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Memphis Marriott East - The Official Host Hotel for Elvis Week 2005 - 2625 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Memphis, TN. The annual Elvis Week gathering of members of the Official Elvis Insiders. Elvis Presley Enterprises is putting together a very full day for Elvis Insiders. See special site all about the conference!

This year's conference is again hosted by Elvis Insider, Tom Brown, vice president of production for Turner Classic Movies. Tom is bringing some incredible Elvis material from Warner Brothers, owner of Elvis’s MGM films. Throughout the day he'll be sharing four songs that were cut when Warner released the DVD Elvis: That's the Way It Is, Special Edition. Bridge Over Trouble Water, I Just Can't Help Believing, Sweet Caroline and I've Lost You were to have been included on the DVD as bonus material but were cut at the last minute. The new edit of these songs has been seen only on as add-ons to the premiere of the special edition on TCM. Because there can be no videotaping of these clips, precautions will be taken to ensure security.

This years confirmed sessions currently include:

A Look Back at Bill Black - Louis Black and Nancy Black Shockley, the children of Bill Black, join us on stage to share their memories of their father and Elvis. Black first recorded for Sun Records in 1954 as a member of Doug Poindexter and the Starlite Wranglers. That group issued just one single for Sun, but that was enough to make the talents of Black known to Sun head Sam Phillips. Under the billing of Elvis Presley, Scotty, and Bill, five records were produced on the Sun label in 1954 and 1955, which are some of the greatest rockabilly records ever done. Black was a major part of the early Elvis sound with his slap stand-up bass and unique onstage manner.

Follow that Dream - The objective of the Follow That Dream label is to make artistically and historically important Elvis material available for dedicated collectors. Ernst Jorgensen, author, premier archivist and reissue producer of Elvis's recorded work and Roger Semon, associate reissue producer and company director, Follow That Dream Records, will share with the audience some rare and never-before-released Elvis recordings that recently have been discovered. They also will be unveiling some plans for Elvis material that no Elvis music collector will want to miss. They also have graciously offered to take questions from the audience and share their incredible knowledge about Elvis and his recordings. Ernst and Roger also will introduce a special guest, Stanley Oberst, who participated in FTD’s latest special book/CD combination entitled Rocking Across Texas. It features new stories, updated old stories and some especially rare photographs.

Elvis by the Presleys - The Elvis By The Presleys television special, DVD, book and CD project offers a rare in-depth look at Elvis by his family and friends. Find out all the scoop from this exciting project from those who helped put it together. Jerry Schilling, Los Angeles producer and close friend of Elvis, was involved in many aspects of this project and will host this segment. Joining Jerry will be Priscilla Presley's parents Ann and Paul Beaulieu, who were interviewed for Elvis By The Presleys, and Priscilla's sister Michelle Beaulieu Hovey. Michelle was instrumental in the Elvis by the Presleys project, appearing in the on-screen interviews and taking a behind-the-scenes role in the book. As Beaulieu family historian, she reviewed thousands of Elvis-related artifacts, never-before-published photos, and personal items from the Beaulieu and Presley family collections. Michelle met and became close to Elvis when he dated and married her sister, Priscilla. Also, key to the project and joining the panel are Elvis's double-first cousin Patsy Presley Geranen and her son Jimmy Gambill. Included in the presentation will be rare photos and footage not used in the project but fascinating for fans.

Also scheduled during the conference will be videos from the Broadway hit All Shook Up, the television miniseries Elvis, 2005 news clips featuring Elvis, Priscilla and Lisa Marie and more.

Attendees will receive a welcome kit loaded with Elvis-themed gifts and everyone attending wins a door prize. Tickets are $37.50 per person. Ticket includes access to the Merchandise and Memorabilia Showroom for the day. Elvis Insiders may purchase three guest tickets in addition to their own. Tickets are limited and we do expect a sellout. Advance tickets available via the Graceland sales/reservations department. Phone: (901) 332-3322 or (800) 238-2000. E-mail: glsales@elvis.com. Note: The Elvis Merchandise and Memorabilia Showroom will be open 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM in The Pyramid Ballroom. Admission to the showroom is included with your Elvis Insiders Conference ticket. Showroom details are in the next event listing.

Conference program and schedule subject to change.

Some fans stay in town a while after Elvis Week. Here we list any Elvis related events during the rest of the month of August. Also note that a number of events listed in the Multiple-Date Events section above still will be going on after Elvis Week.

Chagall and Elvis - Sunday, August 21
2:00 PM. Dixon Gallery and Gardens, 4339 Park Avenue, Memphis, TN 38117. Presented in conjunction with University of Memphis' Bornblum Judaic Studies Center. What do a famous artist and the King of Rock and Roll have in common? A fascinating comparison of two 20th century icons that demonstrates how their great passion for their art gave them a commonality - their deep respect for religion, their total control of their art which elevated viewers and listeners to an advanced level, and their need for women in their lives for inspiration and to sustain their sense of creativity. The lecture uses a multi-media approach with the presentation of slides of painting by Chagall offered to a recorded background of Presley's music. This lecture will be one hour in length with one hour reserved for specific readings related to the lecture and a question and answer period. Vivian R. Jacobson has been a lecturer on the artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) at the local, national and international level from 1978 to the present. Ms. Jacobson has done postgraduate work in French language, culture and literature at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. She was the past president of the American Friends of the Chagall Biblical Message Museum in Nice, France and chair of the Friends of Chagall Tapestry. Ms. Jacobson worked with Chagall on various international projects during the last 11 years of the artist's life. For more information call (901) 761-5250 or visit www.dixon.org.
