The most significant landmark of Tupelo's modern history is a modest, two-room house where the King of Rock & Roll was born on Jan. 8, 1935. The Elvis Presley Birthplace is part of the Elvis Presley Park and has been restored to the period before the singer's family moved to Memphis. Elmwood Cemetery
Founded in 1852, Elmwood Cemetery is the oldest, active cemetery in Memphis. Some 75,000 people rest beneath their ancient trees including politicians, soldiers, musicians, madams, murderers, and of course, perfectly ordinary citizens. The cemetery grounds are filled with Victorian statuary and are open seven days a week, from 8:00 am-4:30 p.m. Audio tours are available for rent during normal office hours. Elmwood hosts special tours and events throughout the year. Groups of 10 or more can arrange guided tours of the cemetery with advance notice. Prices vary based on event.
