New York Post Article is This Week's Insiders Artifact

April 06, 2011

We are celebrating the 55th anniversary of the year 1956 in Elvis Presley's life. It was the year Elvis catapulted to superstardom, enjoying his first national hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," his first movie, "Love Me Tender," and his first television appearances. In honor of the anniversary, this week's Elvis Insiders Artifact is an article from the New York Post dated July 2, 1956. The headline for the article is "Elvis Sings...From the Waist Up." It's a reference to Elvis' appearance the night before on "The Steve Allen Show" where he gave a much tamer performance, including singing his hit song "Hound Dog" to a basset hound.

Each week, a rare or never-before-seen photo or document from the Graceland archives is added to the Elvis Insiders artifacts gallery. This gallery is exclusive to Elvis Insiders Basic and Plus members. Not an Elvis Insider? Learn more about becoming one!
