Newspaper Ad for "Love Me Tender" is This Week's Insiders Artifact

April 20, 2011

We are celebrating the 55th anniversary of the year 1956 in Elvis Presley's life. It was the year Elvis catapulted to superstardom, enjoying his first national hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," his first movie, "Love Me Tender," and his first television appearances. In honor of the anniversary, this week's Elvis Insiders Artifact is an advertisement from a California newspaper for "Love Me Tender." The film opened nationwide on November 21, 1956. In Memphis, it broke all records and Variety reported its first-week earnings at $540,000 - a major triumph for 20th Century Fox.

Each week, a rare or never-before-seen photo or document from the Graceland archives is added to the Elvis Insiders artifacts gallery. This gallery is exclusive to Elvis Insiders Basic and Plus members. Not an Elvis Insider? Learn more about becoming one!
