Florida Woman Recalls the Kiss She Got from Elvis in 1956

What a memory! About five years ago, Kathy Campbell Bray made an awesome discovery while going through some old family photographs. The Orange Park, Florida woman found a photo of Elvis Presley kissing her right cheek at one of his early concerts! He was 21 years-old at the time; she was 15.

Kathy tells the Clay Today news that the image was taken on August 10, 1956. Her father had dropped her off along with three friends to wait in line to see Elvis perform at the Florida Theater in Jacksonville. Before the concert got started, a photographer invited her and one of her friends to go backstage and meet Elvis. The photographer took a photo with his own camera of Elvis kissing her cheek and one using Kathy’s camera.

"We wore a lot of make up in those days, but I still didn’t wash my face right away" Kathy says. "It was a wonderful experience and I’m so glad I got to meet him. My best friends were with me at the concert and experiencing it with them was what counted."
