Hotel Cornhusker Receipt is This Week's Insiders Artifact
June 28, 2011

We are celebrating the 55th anniversary of the year 1956 in Elvis Presley's life. It was the year Elvis catapulted to superstardom, enjoying his first national hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," his first movie, "Love Me Tender," and his first television appearances. In honor of the anniversary, this week's
Elvis Insiders Artifact is a receipt from the Hotel Cornhusker in Lincoln, Nebraska. On May 19, 1956 Elvis performed at the University of Nebraska Coliseum. That night, Elvis was asked by a reporter if rock 'n' roll was a bad influence on teenagers. "I don't even smoke or drink" Elvis told the reporter. "I started singing as a gospel singer and come from a Christian home."
Each week, a rare or never-before-seen photo or document from the Graceland archives is added to the
Elvis Insiders artifacts gallery. This gallery is exclusive to Elvis Insiders Basic and Plus members. Not an Elvis Insider?
