William Morris Telegram is This Week's Insiders Artifact

August 03, 2011

We are celebrating the 55th anniversary of the year 1956 in Elvis Presley's life. It was the year Elvis catapulted to superstardom, enjoying his first national hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," his first movie, "Love Me Tender," and his first television appearances. In honor of the anniversary, this week's Elvis Insiders Artifact is a telegram from William Morris Agency President Abe Lastfogel to Colonel Parker. The telegram is dated August 13, 1956. Lastfogel reports that a movie deal with 20th Century Fox has been set starring Elvis Presley. The movie will become known as "Love Me Tender."

Each week, a rare or never-before-seen photo or document from the Graceland archives is added to the Elvis Insiders artifacts gallery. This gallery is exclusive to Elvis Insiders Basic and Plus members. Not an Elvis Insider? Learn more about becoming one!
