"Old Shep" Fan Mail is This Week's Insiders Artifact

September 06, 2011

We are celebrating the 55th anniversary of the year 1956 in Elvis Presley's life. It was the year Elvis catapulted to superstardom, enjoying his first national hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," his first movie, "Love Me Tender," and his first television appearances. In honor of the anniversary, this week's Elvis Insiders Artifact is a piece of fan mail sent by Hugo Krueger, a "grateful teenager" from New York. In the letter, Hugo expresses his love for the song "Old Shep," which was recorded on September 2, 1956.

Each week, a rare or never-before-seen photo or document from the Graceland archives is added to the Elvis Insiders artifacts gallery. This gallery is exclusive to Elvis Insiders Basic and Plus members. Not an Elvis Insider? Learn more about becoming one!
