Associated Press Article is This Week's Insiders Artifact
September 13, 2011
We are celebrating the 55th anniversary of the year 1956 in Elvis Presley's life. It was the year Elvis catapulted to superstardom, enjoying his first national hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," his first movie, "Love Me Tender," and his first television appearances. In honor of the anniversary, this week's Elvis Insiders
Artifact is an Associated Press article with the headline "Why, Steve Allen, Have You Booked Elvis Presley for Your Show?" Prior to Elvis' appearance on "The Steve Allen Show" on July 1, 1956, the variety host admitted he had received strong pressure to cancel Elvis' performance. In response, Allen said Elvis "will not be allowed any of his offensive tactics" while on the show.
Each week, a rare or never-before-seen photo or document from the Graceland archives is added to the Elvis Insiders
artifacts gallery. This gallery is exclusive to Elvis Insiders Basic and Plus members. Not an Elvis Insider? Learn more about becoming one!
