Elvis Insiders Artifact: Check During 1956 Tour

February 03, 2012

This week's Elvis Insiders artifact is a check written by Elvis' manager Colonel Tom Parker. The check was written to the Robert Clay Hotel for Elvis' stay during his 1956 tour in Miami. During his stay, he performed at the Olympic Theater in the famous pink sports jacket, black socks and white shoes. That same evening, his new lavender Lincoln was parked outside the show and mobs of fans wrote love notes on it in lipstick. The following day, Elvis traded his two-week old car in for a white one. The Miami dealer put the car and love messages all on display in his showroom window. After his final, show he drove the new white car on to Tampa.
