Belgian Media Firestorm Over Mysterious Elvis Fan

February 24, 2012

Elvis is making headlines in Belgium after the story of a mysterious Belgian fan surfaced on ElvisMatters.com. The Dutch fan club posted a picture of Elvis and a Belgian fan on their website causing a media firestorm over the never-before-seen picture.

According to ElvisMatters, the picture was taken in 1959 while Elvis served in Germany. Two days after the picture was posted, a man called the fan club and said he recognized his mother Jeannine Delen.

“She has always been an Elvis fan,” her son Kurt commented to ElvisMatters.com. “Mother would have been so proud to see her picture with Elvis in the newspapers. For us, it’s a wonderful reminder of her love for Elvis. When we tell people that mother actually met Elvis, you can see them think ‘Yeah Right,’ but here’s the proof.”

According to her son, Jeannine met Elvis during a vacation trip with her family when she was 15 years old. After spotting Elvis drinking a coke with his army buddies, Jeannine asked her father to stop. Elvis posed for a picture and signed a card for his young fan.

She gave only one copy to her best friend and 53 years later the photo resurfaced after her friend passed away. Meanwhile a search in the family archives resulted in the original negative of the Elvis picture.
