March 26, 2012
In March of 1958, Elvis reported to the Memphis Draft Board to enlist in the United States Army. He was assigned serial number
53310761and was sworn in to the U.S. Army with his family by his side. Elvis reported to Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, where he received his G.I. haircut and was assigned to the Second Armored Division, “Hell On Wheels” outfit at Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas. Two years later, after serving in Germany, Elvis returned home to Graceland where he held a press conference in his father’s office behind the mansion. Elvis served his country just like any other G.I. in the U.S. Army and never let his celebrity status interfere with his duties. In honor of Elvis' service, five photos of Elvis in the Army have been added to the Elvis Mobile 2.0 iPhone app
