Insiders Artifact: 1957 Article Interviews Gladys Presley

April 27, 2012

Gladys Presley was born on April 25, 1912, and would have celebrated her 100 birthday this past Wednesday. Elvis' had a deep love for his mother and often talked about giving her the world. It's only fitting to honor the woman Elvis' loved the most in this week's Insiders artifact. In March of 1957, Elvis bought Graceland but had to continue traveling for work. Gladys and Vernon stayed in Memphis to oversee the moving process. In an article with the Memphis Press Seminar, Gladys says, "I think I am going to like this new home." Although Vernon was not thrilled about moving, Gladys was very excited. Elvis bought Graceland to give the most important people in his life, his parents, privacy and stability. Elvis Insiders can now view and read the full article and interview on the members only site.

Each week, a rare or never-before-seen photo or document from the Graceland archives is added to the Elvis Insiders artifacts gallery. This gallery is exclusive to Elvis Insiders Basic and Plus members. Not an Elvis Insider? Learn more about becoming one!
