New Comic Book Story "Graphic Elvis" Available for Free Comic Book Day

May 04, 2012

Liquid Comics announced today that it will release an original short story about Elvis Presley, written by comic book legend, Stan Lee, co-creator of some of the world’s leading superhero characters (Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, Hulk, Thor, etc.).

Commemorating the 35th anniversary in celebration of the life and legacy of Elvis Presley, the story by Lee was originally created as part of an exclusive hardcover, collector’s item anthology entitled, “Graphic Elvis” which is limited to only 2,500 copies worldwide and available through select online retailers and at www.GraphicElvis.com.

Liquid Comics is now making Stan Lee’s, ‘Elvis’ story available to thousands of people for free as part of Free Comic Book Day, the industry’s biggest annual giveaway of free comic books across the country on May 5th.

In addition to the physical book, an interactive digital and mobile app entitled, “Graphic Elvis: The Interactive Experience,” is also now available for $9.99 and features all of the content from the Graphic Elvis collectors book with bonus videos, animation and interactive features.

Stan Lee commented on his participation of the book by saying, "What a thrill it is for me to be included in a book celebrating the life of Elvis Presley. I remember the time I first saw him on TV, when he burst upon the music scene like a blazing comet. I remember his indescribably rich voice, his incredible sense of rhythm, his magnificent range-- from rock, to pop, to ballads and hymns. I remember the indescribably powerful impact he had on the youth of the nation-- and the world. How lucky we were to have seen and heard him, because there was only one Elvis Presley, whose songs and whose memory will live forever.”

Elvis shared the impact of comic books on his life in his famous acceptance speech for the 1971 Top Ten Outstanding Men of America award. “When I was a child ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book…so every dream that I’ve dreamed has come true a hundred times,” he said.

Stan Lee was joined by some of the most acclaimed graphic novel creators in the industry to portray the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in unprecedented visual styles. Graphic Elvis creators included, Jimmy Palmiotti, John Cassaday, Paul Gulacy, Ryan Kelly, Paul Pope, Greg Horn, Jeevan Kang, Mukesh Singh, Steve Rude, Tony Millionaire, Samit Basu, Gilbert Hernandez and many more.

Beyond the original illustrations, Graphic Elvis also features numerous hand-written notes and musings, never before seen by the public and written in the margins of various books owned by Elvis, making the hardcover collector’s book and the digital app a must have collectible for Elvis fans around the world.

“Elvis Presley transcended every entertainment medium he touched, from music to movies to concerts, and now to graphic novels,” stated Liquid Comics Co-Founder & CEO, Sharad Devarajan. “We are honored to work with some of the most acclaimed creators in graphic fiction to commemorate the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
