Insider Artifact: 1972 Press Conference Newspaper Clipping

June 13, 2012

Forty years ago, Elvis made entertainment history after selling out four consecutive shows at Madison Square Garden. On June 9, 1972, on the eve of his performances, Elvis held a press conference in New York City. During this conference, Elvis talks about returning to the stage after his 10 year movie contract was up and how much he loved performing for a live audience. Elvis went on to perform in front of sold-out New York crowds for the first time since the 1950s. This week's Elvis Insiders artifact is a newspaper clipping from the 1972 New York press conference.

Each week, a rare or never-before-seen photo or document from the Graceland archives is added to the Elvis Insiders artifacts gallery. This gallery is exclusive to Elvis Insiders Basic and Plus members. Not an Elvis Insider? Learn more about becoming one!
