Insiders Artifact: "Viva Las Vegas" 1964 Album Release

June 22, 2012

In June of 1964, Elvis' hit movie "Viva Las Vegas" opened nationally and climbed to #14 at the box office. The film, which co-starred Ann-Margret, was considered to be one of Elvis' best films. By the end of the year, the romantic musical had reached #11 and outranked The Beatles “A Hard Day's Night,” becoming Elvis' highest grossing film ever. There was not an original soundtrack album released for this movie and songs were released either as singles or on four song EPs. This week's Elvis Insiders artifact is RCA Victor Records' release detailing the marketing campaign "Viva La Music." The document describes the "Prodigious Presley Pressings" contest and the promotion of the "Viva Las Vegas" soundtrack recordings.

Each week, a rare or never-before-seen photo or document from the Graceland archives is added to the Elvis Insiders artifacts gallery. This gallery is exclusive to Elvis Insiders Basic and Plus members. Not an Elvis Insider? Learn more about becoming one!
