Elvis Musical “Hound Dog Tour” Returns for Elvis Week 2012

July 12, 2012

The streets of Memphis will be alive with music during Elvis Week 2012 with the return of Backbeat Tours’ popular Hound Dog Tour. A 90-minute all-Elvis sightseeing tour of the city, the Hound Dog Tour has become an Elvis Week tradition, with many passengers returning year after year. What sets it apart from other city tours of Memphis and what keeps people coming back for more – is the music.

Sights included on the tour are Humes High School, the Presley apartment at Lauderdale Courts, Overton Park (where Elvis first performed in concert), Sun Studio, the original Lansky’s shop, the former Memphian Theater, and much more. Tour dates and times are: August 12, 13 & 14 at 10:30am; August 15 at 1:30pm; August 16 at 10:30am; and August 18 at 2:30pm. For reservations call 800-979-3370, or visit www.BackbeatTours.com

All of Backbeat’s sightseeing tours are led by professional musician/entertainers, and the Hound Dog Tour is no exception. Filled from start to finish with your favorite Elvis songs performed live on the bus, passengers are encouraged to play along with tambourines and shakers and even sing along, joining in the fun and camaraderie as we celebrate the life of a man who touched so many all over the world.

“Elvis himself gave the first ‘Elvis Tours’ of Memphis,” says Backbeat owner Bill Patton. “Often times when he had friends and visitors in town, he’d pile everyone in the back of his car and take them on a late night tour of places in town that had special, personal meaning for him. The Hound Dog is our attempt to recreate that feeling, of finding the man behind the legend.”

This year the Hound Dog Tour will be led by two of Backbeat’s finest entertainers, Brad Birkedahl and Brandon Cunning.  Birkedahl, formerly of the Dempseys, is also appearing at the Elvis 35th Anniversary Concert at the FedEx Forum on August 16, while Cunning, a lifelong Elvis fan, is an Ambassador of the International Rockabilly Hall of Fame (in Jackson, Tennessee.) Their respective bands – Brad Birkedahl and the Burning Love Band, and the Stunning Cunning Band – are featured regularly on Beale Street, and are known throughout the region for their high-energy shows.
