Memphis Named Among National Geographic's "Best of the World 2013"

December 03, 2012

National Geographic has named the birthplace of rock 'n' roll as one of the best places to travel in 2013. Among famous and exotic destinations such as Norway's Bodø and Japan's Kyoto, a new article calls Tennessee's home to music legends a must-see place.

With travel tips suggesting the best hotels to the hottest restaurants in town, National Geographic offers a "how to" guide and credits the local community's grass roots efforts for the "something newly electric in the air."

Memphis is nationally known for barbeque and its rich music history, but new projects in the works including a renovated Elvis Presley Boulevard, revived Stax Museum and the Green Mile Project are now opening doors to all types of tourists.

"All around Memphis, locals are pursuing grassroots projects more often associated with Brooklyn or the Bay Area."
