Slideshow of Elvis' John Deere Tractor Restoration Available on Agriculture.com

December 05, 2012

Ever wondered how Elvis' John Deere tractor returned to pristine conditions after years of wear and tear? In 2009, students at Mississippi's Northwest Community College completely refurbished Elvis'  tractor, known as "Stella," and a slideshow of the process is now available on Agriculture.com.

The 1963 John Deere 4010 was a surprise project for the John Deere Ag Tech program. The tractor took 400 hours to restore and instructor Shane Louwerens didn't even tell his students about the tractor's past owner until the project was completed.

“The day they came to pick up the tractor was quite the day,” Louwerens recalls to Agriculture.com. “There were photographers, camera crews and news reporters. The president and dean of the college and John Deere corporate people - just everybody showed up. My students were like, ‘What is going on?’ They were so excited!”

"Stella" is currently on display at the Elvis Presley Car Museum located at Graceland in Memphis. The car museum is home to over 33 vehicles owned by Elvis including his famous Pink Cadillac, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Stutz Blackhawks, a 1975 Dino Ferrari, a 1956 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible, the red MG from Blue Hawaii and more.

“The students and I signed a card with our names. It’s hidden somewhere under the hood. We left that card for history.”
