Photos of Elvis' 1957 "Grand Ole Opry" Appearance Now Added to Mobile Apps
December 11, 2012

In December of 1957, Elvis had just received his draft notice the day before he attended the "Grand Ole Opry" with Jordanaire Gordon Stoker. Prior to making his appearance, Elvis visited Colonel Tom Parker and gave him a red Isetta sports car as a Christmas gift. Stoker and Elvis hit the local clothing stores where Elvis purchased a black tuxedo. Elvis spent the night chatting with performers backstage, including Johnny Cash, and made a brief appearance on stage to wave to the audience. Elvis did not perform on this occasion. Elvis only performed on the "Grand Ole Opry" one time in October of 1954. The show did not go over particularly well, with one of the Opry officials reportedly suggesting that Elvis go back to driving a truck. Five photos of Elvis in his black tuxedo at the Grand Ole Opry in 1957 have been added to our
