Meet the Judges for the 2013 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest

This year’s Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest judges know what it takes to entertain an audience. And, as Elvis fans, they really appreciate anyone who takes on the challenge of paying tribute to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Together, these judges will be searching for the Elvis tribute artist who "best represents the legacy of Elvis Presley." They will be evaluating the contestants in the areas of vocals, appearance, stage presence and overall performance quality. Get your tickets today!

Tom Burleigh
Project Director for Sony Music Entertainment Legacy Recordings
A 15-year veteran of the music industry, Tom Burleigh works with Sony Music Entertainment's Legacy Recordings. As a Project Director and Reissue Producer, Tom has worked with the recording catalogs of some of the most influential and genre-defining musical artists of our time. As a long-time Elvis fan, Tom is especially proud of his role in the creation of numerous Elvis boxed sets and reissues including "Elvis At Stax: Deluxe Edition," "Prince From Another Planet,"  "Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite," "Elvis Country," "Elvis: As Recorded At Madison Square Garden," as well as the Grammy-nominated "Young Man With The Big Beat." Tom believes that "the music Elvis has created remains as vital and as relevant today as the day it was recorded.
Nancy Black Shockley
Arts and Entertainment Performer and Daughter of Bill Black
Born to Bill and Evelyn Black, Sharon has had a lifetime in the entertainment industry. Her father is the famous Bill Black, Elvis’ original bass player in the 1950s.
As a child, her father encouraged her to sing, dance and pantomime Elvis for family members. Nancy has participated in several plays, winning the People's Choice Award for her roles. Nancy has also been in music videos produced by the Bar-Kays and was invited to sing at the GPAC salute to Elvis and his music, alongside B.J. Thomas. Nancy has been a special guest during Elvis Week in years past and is no stranger to the spot light, traveling the world discussing her father and Elvis' musical legacy. Nancy believes good stage presence and true rendering of a song will be key factors in determining the 2013 Elvis Tribute Artist.
Paul Chandler
GPAC's Executive Director
As GPAC’s new Executive Director, Chandler is a performing arts executive with many years of experience in the field including a previous stint with GPAC as Interim ED and Assistant Director and most recently as partner in Resource Entertainment Group specializing in event production, series development, venue management, artist management, event promotions and entertainment booking services.  He has also served as Project Manager with the Memphis in May International Festival. Chandler is active in various community organizations and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Spring Hill College. 
Sharon Fox O'Guin
Memphis and Shelby County Deputy Film Commissioner
Now in her 18th year at The Memphis and Shelby County Film and Television Commission, Sharon has worked on hundreds of Commission assisted/recruited productions including “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” “The Rainmaker,” “Walk the Line,” among many others. Along with these features, Sharon has also worked with national clients shooting in Memphis, including CBS, ABC, NBC, The History Channel, Travel Channel, A&E, Harper’s Bazaar, MTV, VH-1 and others. She was recognized as one of Memphis Woman Magazine’s “50 Woman Who Make a Difference” and has been featured in Memphis Magazine, RSVP Magazine and the Jewish Journal.

EPE’s judging guidelines, rules and scoring forms are provided to each Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest preliminary location and they are required to follow these criteria when choosing their preliminary winner. In addition, these are also used during the Semifinal and Final Rounds of the contest in Memphis to choose the top winners and the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist of 2013.

For the Semifinal and Final Rounds of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, the accounting firm of Dixon Hughes Goodman oversees the scoring and tabulation of the contest judging. Having Dixon Hughes Goodman as the official auditor of the event assures that the tabulation is held to the highest standards of integrity and objectivity.

Tickets are still available for the 2013 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest Semifinal Round on Wednesday, August 14 at 7:00 p.m. and the Final Round on Saturday, August 17, at 7:00 p.m., at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Memphis.
