“I grew up in Hendersonville, Tennessee. I attended Memphis College of Art and really got a big appreciation for Elvis. Three years later, I was living in Venice Beach and missing the Memphis Elvis vibe, so I painted this beachside. It was hard for me to capture the raw 1956 Elvis, but I put on some old Sun records and felt Elvis in my studio with me.”
